Product description
Condrosulf is intended for long-term treatment of degenerative (osteoarthritis) and inflammatory joint diseases. It is suitable for osteoarthritis affecting hip, knee and small joints. The disease incidence in the population is increasing, and often multiple joints are affected simultaneously.
Chondroitin sulphate is one of the main components of cartilage and has a significant ability to retain water. This ability helps cartilage to maintain its elasticity, mechanical and functional properties.
In the degenerative process of osteoarthritis, a reduction in the amount of chondroitin sulphate in the cartilage is observed. This reduction is caused by the action of specific enzymes and leads to:
- a loss of water retention ability
- progressive degeneration of cartilage
- impaired joint functions
The administration of chondroitin sulphate in Condrosulf is intended to restore the metabolic balance of the articular cartilage. Chondroitin sulphate increases the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and collagen, and also the production of hyaluronic acid by cartilage cells. In addition, it inhibits the activity of enzymes that degrade cartilage cells. As a result, Condrosulf reduces or stops further development of osteoarthritis and cartilage degradation, and restores its mechanical properties. In most patients treated with Condrosulf, clinical study results showed a reduction or even complete relief of pain, reduced analgesic consumption and improved joint mobility.
In addition to being a drug capable of affecting disease symptoms (pain, inflammation and joint stiffness), chondroitin sulphate is also able to reverse the course of the disease by stopping the narrowing of the joint gap.
Condrosulf effects have been proven by several clinical studies, namely international, multicentric, randomized, double-blinded and placebo controlled studies.
For the efficacy of preparations containing chondroitin sulphate, what matters is whether the molecule is of a pharmacopoeial quality. Chondroitin sulphate contained in Condrosulf is obtained by extraction and purification of natural animal sources and its structure (chondroitin-4,6-sulphate) is identical to the chondroitin sulphate naturally present in our body. This ensures absorption into the blood circulation and incorporation into the cartilage structure.
It is also important for the treatment of patients that chondroitin sulphate is received in a sufficient amount ensuring its therapeutic effect. As it has been proven for food supplements, it is not guaranteed that the preparation contains the daily recommended dosage necessary for treating a patient. In the case of drugs, the manufacturer is obliged to ensure the content of the active substance matches the specification in the user leaflet, which does not apply to food supplements. Their composition is not controlled by the State Institute for Drug Control, as is the case with drugs.
In all pharmaceutical forms of Condrosulf, the daily dose contains 800 mg of chondroitin sulphate, and this dose has been shown in studies to be effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Condrosulf is suitable for patients from 15 years of age, it is taken once a day regardless of food. It is recommended to take Condrosulf continuously, but at least for 3-6 months.
